GPU FahCore_17 is now available on Windows & native Linux

Postby bruce » Wed Jun 26, 2013 4:08 am

For those of you who wish to fold with Core_17 on either Windows or Linux, you can set client-type = advanced and update your drivers if you have a recent GPU.

Previous discussions by the beta team will provide considerable additional information on this topic but the discussion can continue here.

You're going to have to remove most if not all of the OC on your card (if it is in fact OC'd). The Core 17 WUs (Especially the 8900) don't like an OC. EVEN some factory OC's like the 660ti have been known to fail.

Try running at below stock speeds, just as a test.

What is recommended is the latest WHQL drivers, not beta ones. See viewtopic.php?f=66&t=24209&p=243251#p243251

Most likely due to flags removed before the attempt to work this unit or just a bad WU.

This WU has been completed successfully by someone else, there was one other failure in the database:
Hi ****** (team ******),
Your WU (P8900 R569 C1 G41) was added to the stats database on 2013-06-26 07:01:01 for 25362 points of credit.

The failure may also be connected to using an unsupported GPU, Fermi or later cards are supported for Core 17.

I have two machines running Core_17 work units, both running well and configured as:

Distro: Slackware 14 64-bit
Client: 7.3.6 tarball
CPU: 3770k running as SMP:6
GPU: 2x GTX680 (MSI N680GTX Twin Frozr)
Driver: 319.23
PPD per machine: 195-205k, depending on actual work units

The factory OC on these cards has not caused any noticeable issues (no errors, warnings, or failed work units).

THANK YOU! I have been waiting for this for years.

- Removed Catalyst 13.5 by running AMD's uninstall-utility.
- Rebooted as suggested.
- Installed Catalyst 13.4 (all options, except Drag selected).
- Rebooted as suggested again.
- Turned the clocks down (925/1375 for GPU/VRAM, contrary to 1050/1500 by default).

Result: still crashing.. :(

Which WU(s) have crashed. Maybe you got a bad WU.

Is your system well ventilated so that the temperatures are kept at reasonable levels?

His crash happens before the GPU is under load by his log so the card should not be over heating since there is never any load on the card.
With core 17 it takes 3 to 5 mins after start for the core to even put a load on the video card check his times in the log he posted.
It crashes a few seconds after it downloads core 17 work. I had seen this in Linux and was due to the driver not being installed correct
can't say I've had any probem with windows video driver installs. Make sure you have MS .Net Frameworks up to date.

Edit: Check the project numbers agenst the numbers above in your log (Run 393, Clone 1, Gen 41)
If there the same could just be a bad WU, you will need to remove the slot and start clean if that is the case.

Another person has returned that same WU after an immediate error. I suggest you discard that WU and let a new one download.
