FAILED_1 (0 = 0x0) error on Linux (Gentoo)

FAH provides a V7 client installer for Debian / Mint / Ubuntu / RedHat / CentOS / Fedora. Installation on other distros may or may not be easy but if you can offer help to others, they would appreciate it.

FAILED_1 (0 = 0x0) error on Linux (Gentoo)

On a new installation of f@h, I've encountered the very vague error "FAILED_1 (0 = 0x0)" immediately at the start of a Nvidia work unit.

After some very frustrating time using strace to get a better error message, the error was related to a misconfiguration of locales where I ended up setting my system to a locale that was not installed.
The error was "write(1, "\33[91m03:59:27:ERROR:std::exception: locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid", 84) = 84"

Fixing the locale fixed the error. Its pretty easy to make that kind of mistake on Gentoo linux...
Also if you just setup foldingathome on Gentoo, make sure that the foldingathome is in the video group, otherwise it won't be able to use the GPUs.
