Can pain be replaced ?

Please confine these topics to things that would be of general interest to those who are interested in FAH which don't fall into any other category.

Can pain be replaced ?

Post by kooshdin »

Hi there im new to these forums and just have a specific question for bright scientists.

Can you replace pain with something different like a pulse for example ?

I dont know how the nerve endings work but im interested in this concept of replacing pain with say a pulse for example or a different feeling
that you recognize.

Pain to me is a waste of time , it should be replaced with something different but do scientists think this is possible ?

Please help :)

I don't see a connection between this question and FAH.

Which clients are you running, and what's your folding name?

Ok but why ask in the folding forum, it's a science question alright and I think it's not a real bad one as well, but usually this section isn't used for a first post on this forum which is I think the reason for the reaction.

Maybe tell us what drove you to ask us, I'm interested in that before going on to answering ( kind off ) the question at hand :

I've watched documentary movie, on Discovery I think, where the scientists said the pain is "software" if I can say so, because there is no specific region in the brain to receive those pain signals. Even in the movie they showed a dentist who hypnotize you to think of the pain as something sweet in your mouth :) So the pain can be manipulated. Also in extreme situations you don't feel pain, because your brain stops responding to it, to give you a chance to think of something that can save your life.

PS: I think the subject is good ;)

I wonder is someday they'll produce drugs for the military that block out pain but have no other effects (like morphine etc.)

Then we would have ourselves a REAL master chief.
