Temporary Restrictions For New Users

Post by PantherX »

  • Temporary Restrictions For New Users
Please note that if you have recently joined the Forum, you may not be able to use some of the Forums' features initially. Our anti-spam policy sets a threshold just high enough that a spam-bot is unlikely to reach it while the donors can, provided they are around long enough. Some of the features that you initially can't use are:

1) Can't post URLs.
2) Can't quote another user.

Please don't waste our time trying to overcome these limitations. Just participate normally and soon you'll no longer be restricted.

Introduction To F@h Jargon

Post by PantherX »

  • Introduction To F@h Jargon
While browsing this Forum, you may come across some unusual acronyms which are commonly used by F@h donors. Below is a list of commonly used acronyms:

WU - "Work Unit" It is a small time-slice of Protein processing that is downloaded by your F@h Client from the appropriate Server. Your system will process it and once it finishes folding, it will upload the result to the Server and will request for another WU.
Note: The duration to process this WU will vary from an hour to few days depending on the type of WU, F@h Client, system usage and several other factors. You will receive credits for a WU once it is successfully uploaded to the Servers and the Official Stats are updated (happens every hour)

PRCG - "Project Run Clone Gen" It is used to identify a WU that is assigned to you. A simple explanation and a detailed one can be read for further explanation.
Note: For a given Project number (and Protein Name) there are many Run/Clone/Gen's so don't be alarmed if you seem to be processing the same protein again. The Pande Group doesn't assign duplicate WUs on purpose to keep donors busy.

PPD - "Points Per Day" It is calculated by third party applications so please visit this tools list and install an appropriate one.
Note: PPD will vary from WU to WU (even if they belong to the same Project) and will be effected by system usage and other factors.

TPF - "Time Per Frame" Each WU has 100 frames and it is the time taken to finish 1 frame.
Note: This is calculated using third party applications.

A list of further abbreviation is available here.

Introduction To FAHlog

Post by PantherX »

  • Introduction To FAHlog
The F@h Client creates a text file where it records all of its activities with a time-stamp. Please note that the time-stamp will be in GMT/UTC and not your Local Time and you can't change it. This file is useful when troubleshooting any F@h Client. If you are experiencing problems when trying to run the F@h Client, you may post your FAHlog here in the Forum so that others can view it and help you out.

Where Can I Find The FAHlog?
Depending on what Version of the F@h Client you have installed, method to access it will vary.
If you have installed the Systray Version:
Image
Step 1: Right Click the F@h Icon (grey square)
Step 2: Go to Status (black rectangle)
Step 3: Click Log File (red rectangle)
Step 4: A window will appear where the FAHlog file appears

If you have installed the Console Version:
Step 1: Navigate to the folder were you have the F@h Client
Step 2: Locate "FAHlog" OR "FAHlog.txt" (Depends on the Windows setting)
Step 3: Double click the text file and a window will appear where the FAHlog file appears.

What Is FAHlog-Prev?
Once the FAHlog file size exceeds 50KB and you restart the F@h Client, it will make a new FAHlog file so the old FAHlog will be renamed to FAHlog-Prev while the new one will still be called FAHlog. Systray Version Clients will not be able to access the FAHlog-Prev file from the Menu so you have to browse to the folders' location and select "FAHlog-Prev" OR "FAHlog-Prev.txt" (Depends on the Windows setting).

How Do I Post My FAHlog/FAHlog-Prev?
You first have to be a member of this Forum to be able to post your FAHlog/FAHlog-Prev. If you are not a member, please sign-up. Once you have created your account, please browse to the appropriate Sub-Forum to either post in a preexisting thread or create a new one. If a new thread is posted in the wrong Sub-Forum, it will be moved to an appropriate one by the Admins/Mods. If the new thread contains already present information, it may either be merged to the old one or locked, depending on the Admins/Mods decision.
Below are the steps on how to post your FAHlog/FAHlog-Prev:
Step 1: Locate the log file as mentioned above and copy its contents
Step 2: Click the Code Button (black rectangle) and Paste the contents inside the code tags (orange rectangle) so that your post looks like this:
Image
Step 3: Click the preview button (purple rectangle) and the FAHlog will be displayed like this for us to view:
Image
Step 4: After making sure that you have included all the relevant details, you can click the Submit button and your post will be posted.

Note: You should include the first part of the FAHlog as it contains valuable information on your Clients' set-up (as shown below). Due to Security/Privacy reasons, you may want to remove the User ID. Also, you should keep your Passkey secure, but it is not printed in the FAHlog so that shouldn't be a problem.

Log information for Version 7

To see the log in FAHControl (aka Advanced Control) prior to v7.3.x you must choose Advanced or Expert in the dropdown selection near the top right of the GUI. i.e. not Novice. You might have to maximize the FAHControl GUI window in order to see the selection menu. (no longer necessary with v7.3.x)

Above your Identity in the middle of the FAHControl GUI you will see 3 tabs. Select the Log tab.

You should now be seeing the log showing the progress of your work.

There are 3 sections to this log:

1. System Info
2. Configuration
3. Folding

To see 1 or 2 click on the Refresh button just below the log (above in earlier versions), then scroll up to the top. You can remove the check next to Follow so that your log doesn't automatically return to the bottom. You can then highlight the appropriate section(s), right-click>copy and paste the data between code tags into a post.

There may be occasions where FAHControl can't connect to FAHClient. If that's happening then post the first 50-60 lines (ensure enough lines to include the System Info/Config sections and some of the Folding section that shows the problem being experienced) of the log.txt file located in the Data Directory.

Location of logs:

The log in v7 is called log.txt and is located in the Data Directory. In that same directory you will see a sub-directory called logs. There you will find a number of previous logs depending on how long you've been folding and which options have been set.
