Client Closes Once a Day

I'm new to the forum and have been folding since early July. I installed the linux (ubuntu 10.10) v7.1.52 client on a dedicated folding computer last Friday (it had been running v6 for a few weeks). I know v7 is in beta, but starting Saturday it would close down the client right around 5-5:30 pm (EST) every day. At 1st it would do it after finishing a wu, but today it did it in the middle of a long wu. It doesn't crash and the controller stays open, and I can fire it right back up again and it folds no with problems until 5 pm the next day. I thought maybe something was wrong with my computer, but a few people on my folding team have experienced the same problem, and one of them has it happen at 5:30 pm in their time zone (UTC).

another thing thats strange (and may or may not be related) is my main computer (not a dedi) is running the v7 windows smp and gpu client. It BSOD yesterday at 5:30 and BSOD again today at the same time as the dedicated rig. I know the BSOD was from overclock instability (and I've addressed it), but it seems kind of odd that it happened around the same time that the client closed down on my dedicated rig.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and is there a fix for it? I use the dedicated rig for team competition so I want to try to minimize down time with it. Luckily the times that its closed I've been home to restart it but one of these days I may not be. Thank you in advanced for any help

Is 5:00- 5:30pm the hottest time of the day? It is in my time-zone.

When was the last time you blew out the dust?

Its in an air conditioned room thats 65F or less all year long. The dedicateds only 3 weeks old so its not very dust, but i did dust both computers last week. The dedicated stays 60C while folding and the non dedicated stays around 68C.

Unfortunately I don't have any better ideas. I have two ubuntu machines. One has been folding for over a month and the other has been folding for two months.

I've never heard of anything like this, and I don't recall reading anything about this on the forum over the year that I've been here.

As a wild guess, I suspect it's related to something to Ubuntu, its configuration, etc. I can't see why the client would do anything like that on its own.

Please post the log showing at least an hour before and some time after it happens. Also post the first page of the log showing the ****SYSTEM***** section and the echo of your configuration.

Here is the logs a few hours before the problem and up until now. The time stamps are not right, the problem occurred around 5:12 pm (it shows 21:12:47 in the log when it shut down, and 21-16 when I restarted it). What gets me is 2 other people on my team are having the same problem

If your system clock is set correctly, the time-stamps are correct. They're always it UTC / GMT not in local time. (Note that near the top of the log, it reports that your UTC offset is -4.)

I recommend that you reset <verbosity v='5'/> to the default value of 3. For the most part, it's best to leave the settings at the default values unless you have a really good reason to change them. (I have not found a good reason for anyone to change that setting.)

It does but i have it disabled, i just checked it again to make sure.

I didnt mention this before, but I didnt ever have this issue with v6. It ran non stop (unless I stopped it) from the day i got it stable till the day i switched to v7.

There are no reports of any differences between V6 and V7 that relate to what you're reporting. (That doesn't mean it couldn't happen, only that it's unlikely.) If you learn anything else about what's going on, be sure to let us know.

I think you're saying that FAHControl stays running but FahCore_xx dies. That's strange because I'm used to seeing messages in the log from FahCore saying it has been interrupted. Is FahCoreWrapper dying, too? Do you have any AntiVirus software running or anything that might kill a run-away process?

Right, The core dies and control stays running. I didnt think to look if wrapper was still running, but ill look next time. I dont have anti virus installed or anything else running. All this computer does is fold. The only programs i put on the rig is v6,v7, and chrome. I havent added or changed any setting between running v6 and running v7. Is there anything else i should look for when it closes tommorrow?

Another thing i thought of if it makes a differance, i monitor the v7 client on the dedi remotely through HFM on my main rig, so i can monitor it when im not home via the HFM web page

Im not sure, i never added it,i only put a max packet big and advanced flag, as well as my name, team and passkey. Everything else is default. Ive been getting great ppd for the most part depending on what wus i get
