Folding with a 980 ti and 4690k

Just started folding, my only question is how do I join a group?? Also would a 7800 GT work with FAH?? That can be used when I'm using my PC

As a team neutral site, this will not be a place to be recruited to a team. But to fold for a specific team all you need to do is pick one and enter its team number into the appropriate field in the configuration screen. You can find teams listed on either the official stats or one of the third-party stats sites. Some have links to their sites where you can learn more about them. The other option is to create your own team.

As for the 7800 GT video card, that is too old to be used with folding. You might use it to attach your display and have the 980 ti fold full time.

Most likely you'll run into driver issues if you try to use both 7800GT and 980Ti. Latest (Windows) driver supporting 7800GT is 309.08 which certainly has no 980Ti support. And a new enough driver to support 980Ti won't have support for pre-Fermi GPUs.

You might try connecting the display to the integrated Intel HD 4600, if your BIOS provides an option to keep the iGPU enabled when a discrete GPU is present.

I don't have a system to test ... but I do wonder: If the driver supporting the 980Ti is installed, what will happen to the 7800GT? Certainly the nVidia drivers will tell you it's not supported and it won't support folding, but it might just act like a standard VGA and support the display as well -- or maybe better -- than the iGPU.

Montyben101: if you get a chance to test that theory, let us know what you find.

I can test that, too. I disabled my pre-Fermi iGPU before installing 353.62 WHQL, so let's see what happens when I enable it. I'd say that is pretty much the same thing as adding a discrete pre-Fermi GPU. Gimme a few days, I'll finish some work and image my fresh WinX setup, in case something goes BOOM after enabling the iGPU and fiddling with the GPUs. I'll start by letting BIOS initialise the Fermi GPU first, after that I'll have the iGPU initialised first.

If Montyben101 wants to test something, I'd rather see if he can get the Intel iGPU to drive his display while 980Ti is folding in the background.

Got me a nice surprise!

When I re-enabled the pre-Fermi iGPU (NVidia ION1, a 9400GT equivalent), it was recognized properly and WinX automatically installed driver v341.74. Fun part is, I can't even find 341.74 on NVidia website. Closest thing is 341.44 WHQL which is the last driver to support pre-Fermi GPUs, so I'm guessing NV/MS did make/keep a legacy driver for WinX automatic updates after all. Another guess of mine is that 341.74 supports the same GPUs as 341.44. My GT430 certainly was old enough to be supported. Alas, the only Maxwell GPU supported by 341.44 is 750Ti.

Bottom line: now I'm able to use the iPU for display (plus some BOINCing) while the GT430 is fully dedicated to folding once again.

Idk what went wrong during my WinX upgrade, but looks like the same GPU support that WinX Tech Preview had is still in place in the official release. If you want to mix pre-Fermi and newer, I have a hunch that it'd be a good idea to temporarily remove all but the pre-Fermi GPUs during upgrade. That should force WinX to use 341.74. Put newer GPU(s) back after the upgrade.

I don't think it very likely that there will ever be another driver update for legacy NV GPUs, and since this is coming from WinX Automatic Updates, it's 341.74 or bust with legacy NV GPUs and WinX. So no CUDA 7.x, this driver has CUDA v6.5.
