Anyone going to preorder one of them?
It's going to be interesting how they perform.

Re: AMD Ryzen CPU
I do need an upgrade for my daily use rig and part time folder, but i'm going to wait for the 2p server solutions to be released. My dedicated rigs are staying as they are for a couple of years - unless Zen proves to be an animal on A7 WU.

Top model Ryzen 1800X competes with intel i7 6900k which gets 150k PPD with Fahcore_a7 AVX.

Re: AMD Ryzen CPU
That's very good, but my 2p ivy bridge xeon rigs can get 250-280k PPD with only a 2.4ghz clock speed. 2p zen looks like it has the potential for 400k or more, and that hasn't been seen from a CPU rig in a long time. Being able to run 3 gpu's and 32-48 threads on a pair of cpu's in 1 rig is much more efficient from a space and power point of view.foldy wrote:Top model Ryzen 1800X competes with intel i7 6900k which gets 150k PPD with Fahcore_a7 AVX.

Re: AMD Ryzen CPU
The Ryzen seems to have 95 watt TDP, do you know how much power your 2p ivy bridge xeon use and how many cores?

Each cpu is 115w tdp and 12c/24t, measured from the wall it pulls about 285watts from a 240 volt supplyfoldy wrote:The Ryzen seems to have 95 watt TDP, do you know how much power your 2p ivy bridge xeon use and how many cores?

Re: AMD Ryzen CPU
If I very lucky, I'll preorder it, but mostly not for F@H. I believe those processors can cost cheaper than Intels and handle my GTX1070 in games normally

With Ryzen the Gamer PCs will step up to 8 cores. For folding the AVX performance will be interesting.

Re: AMD Ryzen CPU
Looks like there are also 65W versions of the Ryzen (http://www.techspot.com/news/68219-week ... ard-r.html). Looking at the chart, the 1800Pro will likely come in around 3.4 GHz.foldy wrote:The Ryzen seems to have 95 watt TDP, do you know how much power your 2p ivy bridge xeon use and how many cores?
If the benchmarks come in as claimed, that may well be my next build!

Re: AMD Ryzen CPU
No one mentioned that the new Ryzen server CPU will have 128 PCIe 3.0 lanes. That's enough for 8 GTX 1080's all at 16x.

Re: AMD Ryzen CPU
Nice article. I like the part where they say it's optimized for Molecular Dynamics!!! Up to six GPU cards and lots of CPU folding.
So AMD is now going to link PCIe slots directly to the CPU instead of via the Northbridge chip. I have two folding rigs with pairs of 1070s one using an i5-4690K and the other an FX-8350. The Intel rig consistently gets 10% plus more PPD.

Re: AMD Ryzen CPU
FX-8350 only supports pcie 2.0 where i5-4690k has pcie 3.0 which has double the speed like going from x8 to x16.
AMD Ryzen supports pcie 3.0 like intel so speed should match for GPUs but speed also depends on how many GPUs share the pcie lanes.

Re: AMD Ryzen CPU
GPU-z shows AMD mb is running both cards at x16 2.0 and the Intel mb both at x8 3.0, about the same. Isn't a x16 2.0 a bit faster than x8 3.0foldy wrote:FX-8350 only supports pcie 2.0 where i5-4690k has pcie 3.0 which has double the speed like going from x8 to x16.

Newegg is selling out of Ryzen CPU and AM4 MBs. The AM4 Ryzen MBs are sure disappointing with only 3 x16 slots and lousy spacing. It's a shame everything's focused on kids playing video games.
Sure would be nice if someone would offer a professional Molecular Dynamics MB that's not constrained to fit in a PC case.

Re: AMD Ryzen CPU
The x370 boards are designed to compete with z270 so they are about the same and AMD boards haven't had the time to design fancy ones with PLX chips yet.
IF naples supports 128 PCIe 3.0 lanes then sharing will not be a problem, even if they have NVMe drives hanging off the bus as well.
