64 bit NV GPU2 driver hack [No longer needed, new drivers]

Postby Tom Philippart » Wed Jun 18, 2008 9:49 am

This workaround works for all CUDA enabled GPUS (Geforce 8/9/GTX 200)

1. Download the latest GTX200 driver with CUDA support: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us (don't forget to select xp x64 or vista x64)

2. Try to install it, you'll get an error message, but that's normal and it won't harm your computer

3. Download a modded inf file for you OS (xp x64 or vista x64) http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p ... stcount=57 (thanks to Guru3D and HellasVagabond!) and copy/replace it into your C:\Nvidia\WinVista64\177.35\ folder (the path is slightly different when using xp x64)

4. Navigate to the folder specified above (C:\Nvidia\WinVista64\177.35\) and run the setup file that you find in this folder, this will start the driver installation

5. Reboot and start F@H, enjoy the PPD, speed and science

My 8800Ultra is extremely fast and runs on Vistax64, I really enjoy it!

Have fun!

DISCLAIMER: Although it is not known that a modified inf could harm your hardware, you should still pay attention! I take no responsibility for any damage or low ppd.It is entirely your own responsibility.

The only 64 bit driver with cuda support seems to be the 174.55

The link you provide lists non cuda drivers!

just download the 177.35 drivers, those are regular drivers which add CUDA support (see the changelog)

Correct, the 177.35 driver now include CUDA support. I guess they wanted to include it by default in prevision of the new F@H client and future PhysX support.

This seems to work on non-64-bit Windows, too. I didn't check if the 32-bit driver is the same version, though.

How about editing your instructions and title to explain that.

The work around is necessary for 64-bit OS's because it is the ONLY way right now to allow them to run the FAH GPU2 nVidia client. 32-bit OS computers don't need the work-around.

hmm...followed your instructions, but when I go to try and install the drivers for a second time it says they are 32-bit drivers. I have double checked to make sure they are actually 64-bit, any ideas?

Make sure you downloaded the correct modded .inf file.

Doubled checked both the drivers and the .inf file.

My problem wasn't that it said they were 32-bit drivers... it said they weren't even Vista drivers! They're killing me.

I got that too after I completely erased them and tried again.

The only way I could find the 177.35 drivers at nVidia was to select the GeForce 200 series.

After the failed install of 177.35, copying the modified inf file to the NVIDIA folder prompted a warning for over writing the inf file. The previous two failed attempts at installing nVidia drivers and modified inf file did not ask about over writing the inf file. ??

The PPD is worth the trial.
