FAHCore 0xA4 credits downgraded ?

Post by Blue_Bubble »

For the last 2 or 3 days I have noticed that all my 0xA4 work units complete with a credit estimate of a mere 207.00 points (appears to be a constant regardless of how quickly or slowly they run).

Most of these work units would have been rated at 1500 to 1600 previously.

What has happened ?

It may be related to this issue. If you check which server your issue has, you can know.

Thanks Jimbo, I had actually seen that thread. The server in that thread is 128.252.203.9 (islay.seas.wustl.edu).

The server my work units are uploading to is 171.67.108.58 (vspd4.stanford.edu).

Nevertheless, I sure am hoping it's the same issue; my daily points score will plummet if the work unit credits are downgraded :(

Your problem might be related to the one reported for the other server, or not. Without any information on which WU's you have turned in recently that did not get the bonus points, or what username you fold under, I can not tell if this is the problem. But 207 is the base credit for the projects still running on this server and using the A4 core

As for "downgraded", no the A4 WU's hove not been reduced in credit or removed from the QRB.

Re: FAHCore 0xA4 credits downgraded ?

Post by bruce »

FYI, there have recently been some updates to the code running on FAH's servers. I suspect that this is essentially a bug-report associated with those updates. As Joe_H says, there has been no intentional reduction in the points of any active project. If this is, in fact, a bug, FAH will most likely revise any credits to correct any errors accumulated while the bug was present. Most likely, all credit corrections will happen during the same hour, so there may be a time when everybody gets a huge increase in their total points. Such re-crediting often isn't immediate but FAH has very good about correcting their errors. Before that happens, the bug will be corrected so folks will first start getting bonus point again and later will receive the corrections retroactively. -- so that there is a specific beginning and ending time that that the corrections must cover.

For Bruce - Put me down for this same daily WU points drop off since June 30th. It appears that we are only receiving the WU's Base Credit Value since that time - as can be seen at this URL - https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com ... s=&u=33541. Refer to graph showing points drop off. I should be averaging 500,000 PPD processing around 73 WUs per day.

There's no need for additional confirmation that the server(s) have a problem. When somebody gets time to manually re-credit the missing points, they'll do it for everybody.

I am not sure what we can tell you.

This is not a science based problem, just a temporary points problem. The work is getting done, nat all the points are being credited at this time.

In North America, Universities are on minimum staffing for the summer.

I expect that the first indication they are working on the issue will be the influx of backed up points, over days.

If we are lucky, after that, they will explain what went wrong.

Based on past history, there will be two steps.
!) The projects that are currently earning reduced points will start getting bonuses again (going forward).
2) The points will be adjusted retroactively st some later time. This is a manual operation, also requiring a specialist's time so it's not coordinated with step 1. If several servers are involved, it will take longer. If it's just one, they may all happen at the same time.
3) There will probably not be an official explanation.

The only facts that might be interesting is a list of servers that are involved.

Another interesting set of facts is that the official code on the servers is being updated (See https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats) This happens one server at a time, at the convenience of the server's owner although it would be expedited if the problem had an impact on the production of science. [It was announced elsewhere that FAH's infrastructure was being updated.] All this might or might not be related to the bonus crediting ... but my GUESS is that it probably does. The points crediting procedure does involve intra-server communications.

It has been more than two months now... Do we even know if some official people at F@H are aware if this issue?

Strange: The projects in the 8000-9999 range were "completed{ some time ago but FAH needed some additional data so some have been re-opened. Perhaps something was missed when they were re-added. I see you earned 207 points for Projects 9033 and 9037 which suggests that it is missing the bonus, but I can't confirm that at the moment because these projects are not listed on the psummary page.

I'll check with the folks who actually know the answer.
