Fedora 30 NVIDIA: 7 GP107 [GeForce GTX 1050 ti]

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Why does the Fedora 30 system, or the FAHControl software, reset my GPU index from '0' to '-1' after any update that causes a restart? This causes my system to fail with 'Bad GPU number' or some such error. When I edit the GPU number in the slot information, the software then works.
Is this a 'feature', or a known system activity?

To give you a good answeer, we need to see the *****SYSTEM***** section shown on the first page of FAH's log. See instructions below.

Is this a known behaviour of Fedora 30/F@H, or do I have something wonky in my system setup/permissions?

Perhaps there was some old settings file in the system, because the last two updates (with reboot) worked fine:

It's reasonable to assume that you can open 155.247.166.220:8080 with your browser (but you should test it anyway). Assuming you get the banner page for a Work Server, the next thing to check is your firewall software. You probably need to grant an exception to allow FAHClient to act as a browser on the internet.

I removed the slot definition and rebuilt it and now it is running.
QUESTION: Where on the system should I look for the stranded download from the afore mentioned download failure? I wish to clear this from the system memory.

In case anyone else was interested, the failed download files for Fedora 30 show up in /var/lib/fahclient/work/## directories where## is the work number.

Is this a 'feature', or a known system activity?
I don't have a good answer for you. Would you be satisfied with at guess?

My guess is that GPU:0 is configured but the OpenCL drivers are not detected so it's treated as a defunct GPU. During error recovery, it does detect a GPU an OpenCL drivers that can be used so it creates a new definition and calls it GPU:1.

The GPU enumeration software isn't necessarily perfect for all possible systems configurations. Inasmuch as it's working, it's not likely to be "fixed."

Why is this a problem for you. It's working and leaving the initial setting of OpenCLindex=-1 would allow the software to choose whatever works. You don't need to try to force it to be 0.

Actually it appears that I DO have to set the OpenCLindex to 0. I had another system loading hangup and had to build another slot. I tried leaving the OpenCLindex index to -1 but it died. It only worked after I built another slot with GPU CUDA and OpenCL all set to 0.

I'm thinking, is there a possibility you're using a CPU with integrated graphics?
If this is the case, I bypass that kind of issue by disabling the IGP in the bios (boot from dedicated graphics only).
You'll have to plug your monitor in a GPU HDMI (or other) port, instead of the motherboard's.

That solved it for me.
