How do I know whether the F@H WU is working?

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

How do I know whether the F@H WU is working?

Post by Janpieter_Sollie »

I have a WU with an ETA of 24h, and after 30m, the counter is still at 0%.
Radeontop shows 100% gfx pipeline usage,
dmesg shows no errors.
log.txt of folding@home shows no progress of WU00, only WU01, which is running on the CPU
the heat sensor of the GPU is also pretty OK (70°C)
in ps aux, I see the FAHCore process has been started:
/opt/foldingathome/cores/cores.foldingathome.org/v7/lin/64bit/Core_22.fah/FahCore_22 -dir 00 -suffix 01 -version 705 -lifeline 2567 -checkpoint 15 -gpu-vendor amd -opencl-platform 0 -opencl-device 0 -gpu 0
with clinfo, I can see necessary libs are present:
Number of platforms 1
Platform Name AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing
Platform Vendor Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Platform Version OpenCL 2.1 AMD-APP (3004.6)
Platform Profile FULL_PROFILE
Platform Extensions cl_khr_icd cl_amd_event_callback cl_amd_offline_devices
Platform Host timer resolution 1ns
Platform Extensions function suffix AMD

Platform Name AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing
Number of devices 1
Device Vendor Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Device Vendor ID 0x1002
Device Version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (3004.6)
Driver Version 3004.6
Device OpenCL C Version OpenCL C 1.2
Device Type GPU
...but it does not progress at all! not even a tiny 0.01%

Any suggestions?

Can you please post your log file. Ensure that you have copied the System configuration which is present at the start of the log file: viewtopic.php?f=81&t=26036 :)

You can also use the tool GPU-Z to see if there's any utilization on the GPU.

I also saw that one ... unfortunately, this doesn't help (not even a little bit): the opencl drivers for cards GCN < 2.0 are a totally different driver than the ones I'm trying to use, and the card is detected by the opencl driver, it simply doesn't work

Based on temp and radeontop it looks like it should be working but 30 minutes is an awfully long time to not hit 1%. The 24 hour ETA is just a default guess since you haven't done that project yet, it updates once some progress is seen. That card seems comparable to a 980ti so shouldn't be that slow of a performer. Have other gpu units ran ok?
