GTX 1660 showing as gpu:0:[xxx] gets no WUs

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

GTX 1660 showing as gpu:0:[xxx] gets no WUs

Post by barkydoggo »

My GPU suddenly had a name change in my F@H client and won't get WUs anymore. I've reinstalled drivers, rebooted multiple times, re-added the GPU slot. Any suggestions?

(This is a guess, I did not see the first 200 lines of your log to make a good guess, so it is a bad guess)

Search for and delete GPUs.txt and have the client re-download it.

That may help.

That is a good idea! And I did it, which unfortunately didn't solve the issue.

BUT
I solved it! I added a 2nd GPU slot and it detected my GPU properly. Looks like the iGPU on the processor showed up after a Windows Update. I paused that slot and am now folding like normal again.

Hope this helps anyone else with this issue.

Thank you!

I'm curious, since I also have a 1660, what kind of PPD are you getting?

I'm not too sure as I'm having a really difficult time getting WUs. Current counter is saying 678567 with the i9-9900 folding too. This is my prebuilt work PC, a Dell Optiplex 7071.

Ah okay that sounds in line with what I'm getting. I get 500-600K PPD just from the GPU.

Thanks for this! Must have been an update, was doing great and then suddenly noticed the huge drop in daily points and that the GPU was labeled as XXX.

Updated the driver and still no good, but came here and BOOM solved. Just went to configure and added a new GPU slot and there it is! Now here's to hoping it gets a work unit.

You've been bitten by a new bug.

Some provisional GPUs from Intel have been added to GPUs.txt for some internal testing. Unfortunaely this has disrupted a number of previously working GPU slots. You happened to find the solution: Add a new GPU slot for the old GPU.

The first GPU slot used to point to your existing GTX 1660 GPU and it has been "updated" and it now points the unsupported Intel iGP. Leave that slot alone and pay attention to the new one you added.

I'm also getting issues with a new GTX 1660.

GPU 0 Bus:38 Slot:0 Func:0 NVIDIA:7 TU116 [GeForce 1660]
Not detected: failed to open dynamic library 'nvidia.dll': the specified module could not be found.
OpenCl Not detected: clGetPlatformIDs() returned -1001

Does this mean I am missing an Nvidia driver? Or is this an issue in FAH?

I originally had an integrated graphics APU.
When I look at the Slots tab, it has two entries.
CPU 0
GPU 1

And, in case it helps, here is a recent part of the Log

Have you (re-)installed the drivers from Nvidia.com?

I feel like such a noob! Can't believe I never thought to update the drivers. Built the computer. Used an integrated graphics cpu for a while. But, I updated everything. Finally got the graphics card...and the new processor only cpu...what do i do? Not update the drivers. Sheesh!

Unfortunately, it is still doing the same thing. So, here is the log beginning after I did the driver update.

Re: GTX 1660 showing as gpu:0:[xxx] gets no WUs

That's not the part we need. About one page from the extreme top of the file it shows the GPUs that were found along with the drivers. That's the beginning of the execution of 0xa7.

My GUESS is that you need to add a slot for the device ... or maybe something else.

If copying from the log window in FAHControl, remove the check from Follow and Refresh to load from the beginning of the log. Then scroll all the way to the beginning of the log, we are looking for the first 100-200 lines.
