Are my slots configured correctly?

Hi,

I have six cores in the processor and a NVidea video card that performs CGU tasks. When looking at the "web control I see cores 1, 4 & 3 being used, but CPU 1 is used three times. CPU3 two times and CPU 4 one time.

The slots are all set up for the one CGU and 6 cores. All are set for -1

For it to show core one repeated three times & anther twice, do I have something incorrectly set in my configuration and am not utilizing my cores efficiently?

Please post your log as explained here viewtopic.php?f=61&t=26036 ... I'm going to guess that you have a 4core slot,a 3core slot and 3 one core slots and possibly another I can't quite see in the image (which is what the web interface is showing - those aren't the cpu numbers rather the numbers of cpu cores) - but the logs will confirm and then it can be sorted out a bit ... make sure to include the top 200 lines of the log as that has the configuration details in it.

You want to have only one CPU slot as it is using multicore.

With the log we will know a little more about the kit and can tell how many cores to set the slot to and help the OP "finish" the current WUs and then pare the slot count down to one with a decently high core count

What is probably the route forward is to flag each of the CPU slots to Finish - or Pause when Finish - which will complete the WUs in fold and send the result in ... As each one finishes (and has completed the upload) that slot can be deleted ... Once the final CPU slot has finished then that slot can have its number of cores increased to a sensible value.

We can also check from your logs that you have things like a passkey set up.

Well it looks like you have an 12core CPU ... Is you are running a GPU you want to leave a core for that but 11and 10 aren't great numbers so maybe aim to end up with a 9core CPU slot, a 2core CPU slot and your GPU slot - that will probably do the most for science and get you the most points ... If you need help doing this just ask and I or someone will walk you through this.

Can't see the bit of your log that shows if you have a passkey but if you read this https://foldingathome.org/support/faq/points/ it explains how points work and importantly the Quick Return Bonus and howto qualify for it, which makes a huge difference (all estimated Points Per Day and WUs Points tallies include this) as Base Points are much less.

Oh yes, If you edit your previous post, select all of the log and then click on the code button at the top of the editor text pane it will put "tags" around the log so that when you submit the post again the log will appear in a scrollable window which can make it a bit easier to read.

My Processor is: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz, 3696 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)

I didn't have a passkey, I just obtained one but see no way to enter it. In the blurb is mentions adding it during installation & not to add it to the configuration file. I see no option to add it. Do I need to wait till all is finished and then delete F@H and re-install?

Thanks for the hint on adding the code widget to my log post, I just did that.

So, I have two of the WU's stopped and as I have clicked on finish, they have not renewed. Based on the suggestions above, I removed them in the slots configuration page.

Not sure where to go from here.

In Web Control go to the top left where it lists the user and team information. Click on Change Identity, you can enter the passkey and leave the entries for user and team unchanged. Then save the changes.

Go to Advanced Control (folding icon int he task bar on the bottom left). Click Configure, Identity. You can enter the passkey at the bottom of that tab.

OK so the easiest way to get passkey in is probably to click on the "Change Identity" link under your user name and team identity on the top left part of the web control pane and then paste/enter the passkey in there ... If using the advanced control which is for most things easier in that it gives you more options - then click on configure select the identity tab and paste/enter the passkey details there.

Advanced control will make deleting/reconfiguring slots easier as well ... having clicked on configure choose the slots tab - select a cpu tab - click remove/or edit - on the slots you are keeping change the cpus count to the desired value then click ok and then save.

To find the advance control if you haven't already either navigate to it through the programs menus (it is called FAHControl) or right click on the little FAH icon in the pop up tool tray items on the right hand end of the toolbar.

Advanced control at its top level has a status tab which lets you see what your cores are doing and a log tab which can be useful for troubleshooting ... the status tab will also help you identify which cores have finished and what their slot id numbers are so you know which ones can be deleted - be sure the WUs have been sent before doing this

LOL, well this is interesting. I had a total score of 2,474,029 & I joined a team a while ago and it started at 0 points for the team. Since joining the team, 297,992 have gone to it. When I added the passkey it now says I have 0 points and 0 have gone to my team though when I click on (see stats) I see what I've generated and where points have gone to.

Add to that, as soon as I clicked on save after entering the passkey, the GPU which was idle (with the advanced setting as "Finish") now shows GPU running with 10% completed.

Looks like I'm starting out at zero & all over again.

All that actually matters is this computer is helping to help with fighting the Corona virus, so what matters is OK, but I was trying to help my team with credits.

The points are still there and belong to you and your team. It is just that the Web Control displays points based on the user and passkey entered. So if you search on the Donor stats through the F@h site by just your username entered, all of your points will show up.

Historic points aren't transferred when you move or join a team. The points go to the team that was entered when they were awarded.

As you say, you haven't lost too much. Now all your points will stay with you (but see what I said earlier about team points).

not as such starting at zero as you never "lose" anything - it just gets recorded separately - with a unique user name you should be easily able to track them down and gather the points together ... every username/passkey pairing has to qualify for QRB and will count up from 0 for that pairing ... but you will always be able to find/see/add you past points in ... and tbh once you get past 10WUs you should be gaining points so much quicker than in the past you will soon past previous totals.

If you haven't changed the team info they will still get points - as soon as the QRB kicks in they will gain them quicker ... don't worry too much about finishing/pausing the GPU slot as you can resort the CPU slots without stopping/pausing it when using the Advanced Control.
