It doesn't seem like the reason is a shortage of GPU work units. I was actually getting assignments to work servers, but all of them threw random connection errors : viewtopic.php?f=108&t=35136

Good luck with that but my 1080 Ti is considerably faster - so I am stealing them from you I suspect! LOL

During the peak of the COVID Donor onrush, everything I got was covid related. Other projects were lower priority and were essentially shut out. I've started getting an occasional Cancer project or Unspecified project. (I don't express a preference).

I can't say it's back to normal as I'm one of the newbies, but it's been going extremely well these last days compared to what I had accustomed myself. A few more days of this and my 24 hr/avg will come close to my best PPD possible.
