Radeon R4 (integrated gpu) crash after 90%

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Radeon R4 (integrated gpu) crash after 90%

Post by ignacio »

I've been experiencing crashes lately. The last one reached 98% after days of folding, while using Firefox the screen start to fail and flick, then stop responding.
I use Archlinux, driver: AMDGPU and opencl-amd. I use Sway WM and the R5 as render GPU.
My notebook is an Acer Apire e5-521 with A6-6310 micro, with iGPU Radeon R4 and a dGPU Radeon R5 m240. I could't make the R5 fold correctly... so I only use the R4.

Re: Radeon R4 (integrated gpu) crash after 90%

Post by PantherX »

It might be related to overheating so just check the temperatures of your system.

Regarding the GPUs, this is what could theoretically work:
GPU 0 is iGPU R4
GPU 1 is dGPU R6

Code: Select all

  <slot id='0' type='GPU'>
    <gpu-index v='0'/>
    <opencl-index v='0'/>
  </slot>
  <slot id='1' type='GPU'>
    <gpu-index v='1'/>
    <opencl-index v='1'/>
  </slot>

The temps are not that high, under 56 when using the notebook and folding, and under 50 when idle. But could be...

Regarding the config I used that parameters and couldn't make the R5 work, it gets a work unit and fails with

Code: Select all

BAD_WORK_UNIT
and

Code: Select all

Error initializing context: clCreateCommandQueue (-6)

No idea if this will help but I had a similar issue a while ago and it was before I had an account here but one thing that seemed to help (could be coincidental) I used DisplayDriverUninstaller to remove the driver and any remnents of it then clean installed a fresh driver.

May be worth a shot and at the very least, you'll have nothing to lose.
Do you even fold bro?
