Folding@home Core Shutdown: FINISHED_UNIT
I am using 20.5.1 on a RX 570, 4 GB.

Once this happens, the work unit is left in the advanced control at 100% complete. Another Work unit will be processed, then the system goes back to the start of the one that failed. That failed one will process the second time. The work eventually gets done, but it has to happen twice.

Anybody had any ideas?

The latest drivers are a week old, perhaps they would help.

The first 200 lines of the Log File would tell us much about how your PC is configured

Well, it was worth a try. Your configuration look good to me, although as I understand it, you can only change the checkpoint frequency of CPU Work Units, not GPU WUs.

The error reported in the log is a pass through of a Windows error report. You could try looking up that particular error code to see if any of the possible causes apply to your system.

An error at that point of processing is when the folding core is packing up the various data files to ready them for sending in. That the WU restarted from the beginning indicates the process had gone far enough to have packed up the last checkpoint data and no checkpoint was available when restarted. There is a problem report in for this situation, a future revision of the core may handle an error this late in the process more gracefully.

Re: unknown enum error after finish

I saw the following on one of my projects

Code: Select all

Projects 13400-13409
Cause: covid-19

Testing new core22 release v0.0.5 for our ability to roll out extremely large scale relative binding free energy calculations in support of the COVID Moonshot.

To hear more about the COVID Moonshot and how Folding@home is collaborating with them, check out this recording of a talk we recently gave, hosted by BioSolveIT.

When was v0.0.5 released? Could this "new" core be my problem?

I think it was released early May (viewtopic.php?f=24&t=35063). We haven't seen many error reports so it is plausible but we need to confirm it and then it can be reported.

I found this thread related to the Windows Error message so give it a shot and see what happens: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... b72df05b2a

Interesting post from Microsoft. I had already updated my system. Reinstalling the ntdll.dll is an interesting thought. It would not let me unload it (said it could not find unload point). I will think about this overnight. Maybe I have to boot into safe mode, or even system install command prompt.

Thanks for the info.

The log above reports Microsoft error 0xc0000374 not 0xc000000c. They have very different causes. As far as FAHCore_22 is concerned, version 0.0.5 is nearing the end of it's term in office. There has been a lot of work done on v 0.0.6 but to answer your next question, FAH never predict when it will be ready for release other than "when it's ready."

Thanks for the detailed reports! I'm not quite sure of what is going on here, but we are investigating.

We're still getting tons of useful data from these projects, but it would obviously be great if we could eliminate your 20% failure rate!

I appreciate everyone trying to help. Yesterday, almost every WU I had failed. The only thing that I can think of that is different is that I am getting quite a few COVID moonshot WU. I can't say if all failures were for these projects.

I will let my GPU crunch along. Again, I appreciate people trying to figure this out. The engineer in me also wants to find out what is going on :egeek:

For what it is worth, my last two failures were for project 13409 (one of the COVID moonshot). Unfortunately, I cannot go back any further in my log file (although the log I posted here was also 13049). I will keep an eye on that.

FAH retains 16 of the most recent logs in the "logs" subdirectory of FAH's data files if you want to look.

Did you recently install a security update for your OS?

I did not know about the extra logs. They were helpful, but not conclusive.

Of the ten times this happened (from 5/25/2020), 6 of them were from 13409. These were also the last 6 ones.

2 were 11742

1 was 11763

1 was 11745

According to the windows 10 update logs, nothing was installed, but when I booted yesterday, Microsoft asked me a number of questions (like if I wanted to buy office 360). This seems to be conflicting information. I don't think any patches were actually applied, but the login questions do not make it sure.

In any event, 6 out of 10 from 5/25/2020 is pretty significant, especially given they were all the last ones.

Unfortunately, is is not conclusive.
