Points on Web Control, but no donor stats

Post by RaindropsKeepFalling »

I've been running this since last Monday, and on my Web Control it says I've 992 "Estimated Points". But on the donors page I get "No Results" when I search on my name. Have I not yet completed a work unit, hence I simply have to wait for a few more days? My Folding@Home username is RaindropsKeepFalling, the same as my name on this forum.

Actually, I'm not really interested in getting points: I'm just hoping that the work being done on my machine does actually get uploaded and used. I had a bad experience once before on a distributed computing project where my work units weren't getting uploaded and after a long time I enquired. I was told there was a bug in the automated upload process, and I got pointed to instructions on how to upload manually, but after a lot of struggling I couldn't get the manual upload process to work either so I simply gave up and uninstalled it.

Welcome to the Folding@home community-driven support forum.

You won't be listed until you complete, return a work unit and it gets updated into the DB which can take an hour or two.

Haven't noticed any uploading problems recently but if you do have any problem don't hesitate to post ... it's a good idea to include the first 100 lines (use Code tags) of your log.txt file ... it saves a lot of back & forth. :ewink:

In addition to bollix47's true and excellent post, the Biochemist's in charge of all this do not need the stats, so the stats server is the oldest, crankiest, server they have. Stats are frequently broken or late, again because there is no downside to the folks paying for the stats.

I would suspect it will be a month before you show up in the stats, and if it takes 5 days to get 1000 points you may never show up on the stats.

Most of my Work Units on my slowest PC still have 2 day timeout and a 4 day expiration, so your current rig may never complete a Work Unit. (If you want to post the first 200 lines of your log, we can try to speed up your folding) viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26036

Thanks both.

Yes, not really bothered if I don't appear in the stats, just want to advance the project (I chose the COVID-19 one because I'm in an at-risk group myself, plus I've friends/relatives who are especially vulnerable).

Yes, I've come to realise I've a very slow machine compared to others. Here are the first 200 lines of my log as suggested:

Re: Points on Web Control, but no donor stats

I notice your CPU slot is using 1 thread but your CPU exposes 4. The defalult setting would be 3. If you're on a laptop which probably has limite cooling capabiltes, that might be the best setting, but I'd try either 3 or 2 if that doesn't overheat your system. If you're depending on the slider to configure your slots, I you can move it to FULL.

If you mean the "Power" slider on the Web Control, I've just now moved it from Light to Full.

That is a really old driver.

I strongly recommend FULL. Or at least MEDIUM.

I could not see how long it took to complete 1% on the CPU and on the GPU as the log quit.

You are folding anonymously, if you want to tune your folding for better science I recommend a User Name and Passkey (I also belong to a team but I am not sure that that helps tuning)

Tracking your points over time tells you what works and what doesn't.

(if you look at Points Months you can see me buying a GTX 1060 last winter and a GTX 1650 this spring, if you look at Work Units Monthly, you can see me retire and the 55 (old, slow) PCs folding as me at my employer go off line)

One thing I noticed was an error message for the CPU WU as the last line of the posted log. This usually indicates a corrupted checkpoint. If the client keeps trrying to process Project: 16424 (Run 1560, Clone 0, Gen 126), we can give you directions on how to remove the WU so your laptop can get another downloaded to work on.

Writing out a checkpoint takes a bit of time. There is a bug where the folding core does not mark itself as not to be interrupted and Windows shutdown can end the process before it has finished. You can avoid this problem by pausing folding and then waiting a short while before shutting down.

We would need to see more of the log, but the IGP that is part of your AMD A8-7410 APU may not be powerful enough to finish GPU WUs within the deadlines.

Thanks again all.

I would suspect it will be a month before you show up in the stats, and if it takes 5 days to get 1000 points you may never show up on the stats.

Most of my Work Units on my slowest PC still have 2 day timeout and a 4 day expiration, so your current rig may never complete a Work Unit.
I'm pleased to report that I've achieved one work unit, the stats page shows it already (the data seems have flowed through quite promptly), and my machine's started work on a second work unit automatically.

Yes, it does seem to be moving a bit faster now that I've turned it up to FULL.
