Monitoring power use of computer gear

Post by bikeaddict »

After using a Kill A Watt power monitor for a while before it self destructed, then switching to a Gardner Bender model for a while, I decided to look for a smart plug that had an energy monitor built in so I can monitor my setup without walking to the basement. For the past week, I've been using TP-Link Kasa Smart Plug Mini with Energy Monitoring, part number KP115.

The Kasa Smart smartphone app is used to configure it to connect to your wi-fi. There is a basic screen in the app that shows current power, total kWh for the day, and daily average and total use over 7 and 30 days.

Just figured I'd see if anyone is using anything better that maybe has a way to set your kWh rate that calculates and displays cost. Or a way to set alerts if the power use is over or under a certain amount.
