RTX 4090

Post by red454 »

I will have an RTX 4090 in a couple of days (review sample). How long roughly does it take to get a new GPU into the whitelist? I would like to show the folding performance as part of my review.

The required first step is usually a complete and accurate device ID. Though I have seen suspected device IDs I don't know if anyone would add it on a suspicion.

If you can confirm the device ID on an actual working product, it would probably help add it before the device is in your hand.

It will be interesting to see what these new cards can do.
Fold them if you get them!

Usually takes just a few days to a week, depends on when the person who can add a GPU is available to do it. I do know he has started looking for device info from the new series to add as soon as possible when ID numbers are confirmed.

Ok thanks for the input. I may have to see what I can disclose prior to the launch as I am under the NDA until then. But yes, I expect it will lay down some impressive folding numbers!

This info would be great info to have even on launch day (hopefully when your NDA is over). As folders we usually have not info to go off of until weeks after the gaming reviews are out.
I fold..... look at my folding setups here: www.mxyzptlk.us

Specifically what info do I need? I can ask Nvidia if I can disclose it ahead of time in the interest of Folding. Worst they can say is "no - wait until after the launch."

UPDATE: Wait - I think I found it in the Information About GPUs.txt File thread...
Before you do anything else, determine the hexadecimal device code for your GPU and see if it's already in https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt

Method 1 (Windows)
1) Download and run GPU-Z
2) On the Graphics Card Tab, look for Name and Device ID and note it down
3) Create a New Topic here and post those details from GPU-Z along with a copy of the log file
4) Once it has been confirmed to be a valid entry, the GPUs.txt file will be updated on the Server
5) After the GPUs.txt file has been updated on the Server, locate the GPUs.txt file, delete it and restart the Client
6) The Client will automatically download the latest copy of GPUs.txt file and your GPU should be supported

I already have some IDs from my sources ...

I also added some Hopper (GH100) devices to the supported GPUs.

Not if the card you get has an ID number that matches the ones toTOW already has found. If is not a match, then the PCI ID as reported by GPU-Z or other utility will be needed.

And I should be able to post some folding numbers after the NDA ends on October, 12th ... ;)

It will be interesting to see what these monsters will do for folding points. With the core counts climbing quickly, I'm starting to wonder if we will soon see a point where the extra cores just means less WU's will saturate them properly and point variations will climb more.
Fold them if you get them!
