Post by promeneur »

More and more, WU computing is not finished.

Each time several days FAH computes for nothing.
Are you computing power rich enough to waste it ?

Several days, FAH consumes electricity for nothing.
In many countries electricity is produced by burning coal, oil, gaz. This produced much CO2.

Perhaps it is now necessary to do something. No ?

An example of solution (perhaps there is another solution)
FAH knows the ETA, the time-out date, the expiration date. FAH knows rapidly if "ETA > expiration date". FAH can abort the WU computing and load another WU.

You have given us nothing to go on, so all I can suggest is uninstalling to save energy.

If you wish to continue to fold, read up on items 6 to 8 in this link and send us the first 100 lines in your log. That will tell us much about how your folding is configured now.

What's the point of your post ? Are you reporting an issue ? Or maybe making a suggestion ?

Stopping a WU computing at about 50 % because the time is out is not a software bug. Isn't it ? It is a conception error.
The developer decided that it is not a problem wasting time and energy.
Perhaps it is a good decision, perhaps not.

Today in the world, the energy and CO2 is a growing problem. Perhaps the past decision is not a good decision today.

And you have still provided absolutely no information about your problem, so there is nothing we can do with your report. Which projects are you seeing WUs from that will not complete within the deadlines? What are they being processed on? Your posted hardware configuration lists 3 possible WU processors - CPU (i5-7400), GPU (HD Graphics 630), and GPU (GT 1030).

As for being a "conception error", that is not the case. Due to the serial nature of the WUs for each Run and Clone trajectory, timely receipt of the WU return is expected so the next Gen can be created from the results and sent out to be processed. If the WU has reached the deadline, by then someone else has already been assigned the WU and probably returned it. So further processing by you would be a waste. Creating a major change in coding to cover the occasional exceptionally slow processing WU and dump it earlier for another would be costly in developer time.

In your case it appears some unnamed project or projects are taking longer on your hardware than normal for most other systems. That could be from a misconfiguration on your part, a misclassification of the hardware within F@h, or a combination of both. But since you have just provided a complaint without supporting information, what and where the problem is has no chance of being determined or corrected.

Use the forum Full Editor, select the Code display - just to the right of the Quote, and copy and paste the section of log between the

tags that will be placed in your post. You can leave out lines that just indicate percent of continuing progress to reduce the size if necessary.

Your GT 1030 appears to have been misclassified, it is in the same group of GPUs such as high end cards like the GTX 980. I have put in a request that its GPUs.txt entry be changed. Once that is done the GT 1030 and similar cards should get smaller sized projects.
