If Temple University, Cisco Toronto Innovation Labs, or anyone else is blocking entire IP ranges and/or throttling connection speeds for whatever obscure reasons, viewtopic.php?t=38104 viewtopic.php?p=361714#p361714 , that should have been their problem, not ours.

Folding@home server infrastructure should have used a better load balancing scheme to mitigate server availability issues. If these work servers were actually down for everyone, would job assignment slow down to a crawl as well, like it currently does for IPs affected by their blocking policy? Major disruptions shouldn't really happen with a failure of just a couple of servers.

Folding@home server infrastructure has no way to know that you (or any specific user) can't access a specific server ... it only monitors the server availability (up or down) and jobs availability.

I alerted (again) the person in charge of these servers, but it might be a campus wide policy ...

It's obvious assignment servers don't really know or care whether each specific server is available from the client side, so they just keep assigning the same server over and over again. They are not good at monitoring job availability either, since they keep assigning the same server which has zero available GPU work units, even though there are literally thousands work units available on other work servers. This is simply bad system design with no fail-safe mechanism.

Not assign1, but there appears to be a problem with WS 131.239.113.97. I am sending a notification to the persons responsible for that server and its project.

Also not sure what this is about, is there still an issue where if you specify a preferred cause it fails to fall back to anything else?
