Other apps, mainly Chrome Very Slow after new build

Post by exeter_acres »

I've searched but not finding something like this.... Recently upgraded my computer from a Gen 6 CPU to an I7-13700K
F@H has been running 24/7 for literally years with no issues... but after the upgrade to a much more powerful system....
If I just try to use Chrome, or several other apps....
Everything slows to a crawl.. to unusable...
I get the Chrome, "This page is not responding" popup, etc. etc.. pages don't load...
But as soon as I pause F@H everything works perfectly....
I have the slots set to -1 and it looks like F@H uses 8 of the 16 cores.... I have read up and understand why that is with the newer Intel gen cpus....
so 8 cores are at 100% while 8 cores are at 0% or just bouncing a bit at low percents.
I understand that with P cores and E cores...

But mainly why would things be creeping now with the new setup when they ran great with a much less powerful setup?

Thank for any guidance

No one?
Well. for now, I have gone into the advanced control and changed the slots to 6...
Seems to work and Chrome and other apps are usable... sadly it slows down the WU a bit though..

Anyone else?

Welcome to the wonderful world of big.LITTLE CPUs ... which are handled terribly by Windows scheduler.

If you want to keep folding on the CPU efficiently, here's what to do :
- in FAH advanced control, set the number of threads of the CPU slot to match with the number of P core your CPU has.
- use Process Lasso to create an automatic rule on CPU Fahcores (a8 and a9) that will park these processes to P cores only.
