WU 2653 - hardly could finish before deadline

Post by jer2 »

Hello there.

I've received 2653 (Run 25, Clone 187, Gen 28) on my desktop computer (Athlon64 x2 4200+ 2.2 Ghz, Toledo core) and 2653 (Run 7, Clone 150, Gen 30) on my laptop (Core2 duo T5600 1.83 Ghz, Merom core) - both running SMP console client v5.91.

And with deadline in 4 days and it took 14 hours a day on desktop (55 hours total) and 10 hours a day on laptop (41 hour total) to finish WU...

Are my CPU's so old and i better move to single core clients with longer deadlines? :( Maybe there could be some kind of an option in SMP client to receive WU's with longer deadlines but not finaly deadlineless?

Welcome to the forums jer2!

The SMP clients are high performance clients and are designed to be run 24/7, hence the short deadlines.

If you can't run your computer all the time, or meet the deadlines, the recommendation is to use the regular CPU client instead.

The lower dual core speed limit for SMP seems to be about 1.4GHz for 24/7 folding. My Turion TL-50 @ 1.6GHz takes 44 hours. My X2 6000+ @ 3.15GHz takes 32 hours. You'd need a quad to finish SMP WUs folding part time. Those times are for the 2653.

edit- bad math- time on the Turion is 68 hours, not 44, still under the deadline.

The cpu needs to be faster than a Turion @ 1.6 to meet the 36 hour prefered deadline on p 2653.

As long as it doesn't lock on me (mystery problem), it finishes in 2 days 20 hours. I believe that is less than 3 days.

The deadline is 72 hours, not 36.

Talk about a complete and total brain f**t. :D

I guess I haven't recovered from a straight through drive from CO to GA to get home for Christmas!
