Problem with F@H.

Post by hrlow2 »

I have recently had some problems with F@H. It will not let me access the Team or my own stats.
When I try, I get a message that Folding @Home has encountered a problem an needs to close. No error number or anything.
Tried to remove and reinstall, but the problem remained.
Had already completed 3 projects for my team and was started on the 4th when this began.
Switched my hard drives to my earlier backup, but when F@Hwas started, showed I was still on the second project.
Will this cancel out the progress I already had with the third one I have already completed or what?
When I go to the Team stats page, it reflects my 3WUs and points.

Which client are you using and how do you navigate to the stats? Does the problem only happens when you want to view the stats? And with stats, do you mean these -> http://folding.stanford.edu/stats.html / a 3rd party stats site, or are you referring to the viewer for gpu units'?

The backup has old work data you've already submitted, stop the client, delete the queue.dat and workfolder and start over.

Thank you for the very prompt response.
I have the Win32-x86-System installed.
Access stats by right clicking on the icon and going to Status.

I think, what you are describing is a problem with your browser: Your team and stats are only accessed with a browser. Problems like that are commonly caused by a virus or spyware but can be hardware or operating system corruption. Restoring from a backup may or may not fix the problem depending upon when the infection occured. Of course if it is a HW issue then a backup restore will not help because you haven't actually fixed any HW.

As to what happens if you revert to a backup, the answer is nothing really bad. All WU's returned have still been returned and will remain credited by Stanford for they are not stored on your local machine. The old WU that is now running will either be expired or the client will continue working on it till it completes. In either case, the client will simply download a new WU when it is ready. You will not lose any credit, nor will you get duplicate credit for doing a WU twice because Stanford keeps track of what you've done.

Must have been something other than an infection.
Just ran SuperAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes, and AviraAntiVir scans a couple of hours ago and all came up very clean(not even 1 tracking cookie).
Backup disk that I am on now has not got the same problem.

The stats at Stanford do go off-line periodically when they're being updated. I've seen more problem reports than usual over the past few days. They're aware of the problem and have some plans to improve that situation, but there are many other things with higher priority. Please try to access the stats with your browser and if it tells you that you can't access them right now, look at one of the 3rd party sites.

I might be wrong here but this looks like a client issue, not a stats issue :?:
