We had to log in to follow a link a day or two ago but I didn't have to log in to read this one. (At least I don't remember signing up with the NY Times and setting cookies to log in automatically.)

I think that I was reading an article about this where they were going to be trying to use one of IBM's newest "supercomputers" to play Jeopardy to demonstrate the technology.

I THINK that this what they were talking about. The folks at IBM R&D *phew*. They've got money to spare, AND they do some really really crazy stuff. (Although some of their over 14k patent applications are quite useless).

You never can tell, sometimes old papers lie on a "shelf" for a long, long time, gathering dust, and then are rediscovered as "just the right thing" to solve a current problem.
