Blocking the gamma secretase activating protein (a targeting protein for the protease gamma secretase enzyme, which in turn seems to snip a "big protein" to produce beta amyloid), seems to block beta amyloid protein in mice. Good news! And how appropriate the research was conducted by an 85 year old person! :)

I guess no one really knows why the Lilly drug failed, and are awaiting more information. Meanwhile, the attached seems like a more targeted and selective approach than what Lilly used, so perhaps that was the problem. I guess the good news is that there seem to be a number of approaches being tested, and hopefully the knowledge gained by their failures or success will help find the right approach.
