Re: Problem with 171.64.65.101/171.67.108.49 ??

Problem identified but not yet completely solved. After following up several red herrings, I closed down my firewall (Zone Alarm Pro) and two completed WUs (one more than when I posted originally) were uploaded flawlessly. Though I have used it for years with no problem folding, I recently updated to the new version (10.0). Surprise! Completely new interface, which I haven't yet completely checked out. If I can't identify the new settings that apparently blocked the WU uploads (but not WU downloads), I may trash it. [The ZAP install actually required that I uninstall my Avast AV software first; this is the second really annoying and time-consuming incident I have had with ZAP since the upgrade.]

sortofageek, thanks for your help. At least the problem was limited to me and was not a system problem at Stanford!

FINAL UPDATE: I located the firewall settings for all FAHCore_XX.exe in ZAP. All were set correctly except FAHCore_78.exe, for which ZAP was set to block any outgoing access from both trusted and internet zones. This could only have occurred during the upgrade since I had used this core many dozens of times before with no problem; how it happened, and why this core and not any others, will probably remain a mystery for the ages.... :e?:

You're welcome and don't feel alone. It's not the first time a firewall app has overprotected a folder. :)

I'm not at all suprised that ZoneAlarm blocked the connection. It's an excellent firewall but you often have to manually override it's assumptions or it will "protect" you from FAH. I'm surprised that listing a FahCore_xx.exe has anything to do with it. The FahCore does NOT contact the internet. Only the client contacts the internet.

Updating to a new client can easily cause internet connections to be blocked. Even if you rename the new client to the same name as an earlier client that was permitted to contact the internet, ZA will not permit the new one to make contact until it has also been approved. Is it possible that something like this is what happened?

bruce-- What you suggest certainly sounds plausible. Indeed, I turned ZAP back on and the "solution" of unblocking "FAHCore_78.exe" clearly didn't work--same problem when the next WU finished!

I'd describe my "techie" knowledge as being somewhat better than that of the average person, but far below that of people who work in technical areas for money or pleasure, so any specific suggestions for ZAP tweaks would be much appreciated. [I have found Checkpoint tech support to be--how shall I say it--"insufficient" in both the recent and distant past, another reason to switch to another firewall, I suppose. Can you--or anyone else--suggest the name of an FAH-related application or process that deals with uploads (not downloads) that I should check in the ZAP applications/components lists? I did look for all applications and processes that started with the letter "F," and "FAHCore_78.exe" was the only suspicious-looking one, and both lists are HUGE. Thanks in advance.
