http://folding.typepad.com/ RSS problem

Post by rhavern »

I used to have this feed, but it ceased functioning some days ago. I have tried to re-add this site to my yahoo rss, but it fails. I click on the "Subscribe to this blog's feed" (http://folding.typepad.com/news/atom.xml), click to add it to my feeds and it fails with the entirely unhelpful "There were some problems while loading your page: Sorry, we were unable to add this feed. Please try again later". Manually entering the feed URL in yahoo also meets with fail.

Search of the net shows nothing helpful and I am able to add other typepad rss feeds successfully. Odd.

I have an open ticket with them (Ticket ID 4NWMEMERK7RE), but more people complaining would get their attention.

I got this reply from typepad:

Code: Select all

Nov-21 07:34 pm (PST):

The feed for the http://folding.typepad.com/news/ blog is not valid due to errant characters in some of the posts. You'll typically be unable to subscribe to a blog with an invalid feed.

The author of the blog is aware of the invalid feed, and we are working with him to resolve the issue. We would recommend trying to subscribe to the feed later.

The typepad people claimed it is fixed. Sounds like it isn't?

I tried the feed link with IE and it (surprisingly) was helpful in pointing out what was incorrect:

Code: Select all

An invalid character was found in text content.
Line: 167 Character: 567
This can be seen in the article http://folding.typepad.com/news/2011/10 ... aches.html soon after the text "specifically two previously reported 100 ". It also appears after "timescales of 5.0 ". I think the micro symbol got messed up when pasting the abstract in typepad. Firefox renders the character as a box with 0001 in the typepad post but displays the symbol correctly on the abstract page (at pubs.acs.org).

Fixing this should resolve the broken feed issue.
