Is my Sapphire HD7770 Supported?

I just bought a HD7770 for my kids computer. When no one is using the computer I run Folding@home on all my systems. I can't get the the F@H client to recognize my GPU. I see 7770's on the whitelist and was just wondering if it is a known driver issue or if my specific model of HD7770 needs to be added. Any info on this matter would be appreciated. I saw a few threads with 7750 questions and I tried the solution someone came up with, but no luck. Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue, but my particular version is the XFX Double D Black edition.

It's not supported yet, but you can help by providing the lspci results or finding the device codes from another program.

Pande Group determines what hardware is supported. And since I have seen other 7xxx series cards fold, it looks like that question has been answered. ;) However, as noted, getting the latest hardware enabled to fold sometimes takes a few extra steps.

One way to get the PCI ID is to run "fahclient --lspci" from the fahclient directory. Then we'll open a support ticket to get that supported hardware on the Whitelist to enable it.

Please also post the *** System *** section of the client log. Thanks.

P.S. Welcome to the forum.

Hi - HD7770 is still not supported - I am running client version 7.1.52 so some of the info above doesn't seem to match what I have in that folder. I have a crossfire setup with GPU's running at 1150mhz along with an i7-975 EE so I think it would be worthwhile to run them - losing two cores from 4+4 to gain two GPU's is not going to be a big issue for me I don't think.

Welcome to the folding support forum Ptarmigan!

Can you supply the Device ID info. You can use the instructions above to get the info or use GPU-z. Then it can be added to GPUs.txt.

e.g.

0x1002:0x683d:1:4:R575A [AMD Radeon HD7700 Series]
0x1002:0x683f:1:4:R575A [AMD Radeon HD7700 Series]

The first two fields are required.

What indicates to you the card is not supported? Have you downloaded the latest GPUs.txt file to the Fahclient datd folder?

Let's start with the basics, like posting the *** System *** section of the log file so we can see what is what. Thanks.

@Bollix47
Thanks for the welcome - I checked GPU-z and I'm unhelpfully showing the same device ID for both cards - 1002-683D which means I don't have the info from there - going to try your other method in a sec. Device manager tells me they are on PCI busses 2 & 3.

@7im -Hi, I checked and it does not appear to be in the GPU.txt file and the client tells me it isn't recognised (EDIT: I found the entry in the GPU.txt file that corresponds - it has 'x' in front of the numbers I gave in the paragraph above - it's in the correct folder, client is restarted but still showing the info I have given below). The cards are Sapphire HD7770 OC Ghz Editions - fairly new out in this spec from that card mfr so may not be that many people using them yet let alone in Crossfiremode.

The System Log shows the following which is incorrect - I have 2 GPUs - identical to each other:
11:41:18:******************************* System ********************************
11:41:18: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 975 @ 3.33GHz
11:41:18: CPU ID: GenuineIntel Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 5
11:41:18: CPUs: 8
11:41:18: Memory: 12.00GiB
11:41:18: Free Memory: 10.13GiB
11:41:18: Threads: WINDOWS_THREADS
11:41:18: On Battery: false
11:41:18: UTC offset: 1
11:41:18: PID: 3372
11:41:18: CWD: C:/Users/Ptarmigan/AppData/Roaming/FAHClient
11:41:18: OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
11:41:18: OS Arch: AMD64
11:41:18: GPUs: 1
11:41:18: GPU 0: UNSUPPORTED: Rage XL (Intel Corporation)
11:41:18: CUDA: Not detected
11:41:18:Win32 Service: false
11:41:18:***********************************************************************

The following is the device ID information from the Windows Device Manager - looks more comprehensive than what I get from GPU-z above - it any help?:
1st GPU:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_683D&CC_0300
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_683D
PCI\VEN_1002&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&CC_0300
PCI\VEN_1002
PCI\CC_030000
PCI\CC_0300

2nd GPU:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_683D&SUBSYS_E214174B&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_683D&SUBSYS_E214174B
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_683D&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_683D&CC_0300

The name of the file should be GPUs.txt not GPU.txt.

The correct location is: C:/Users/Ptarmigan/AppData/Roaming/FAHClient

Also, what version of catalyst drivers are you using?

Hi, that file does not exist on PC - will need to download from source in the morning. I'm running latest available driver set 12.8 (updated 17 August no more recent update available).

First, your GPU is supported. It has an entry in the GPUs.txt file, the bolded numbers match!

0x1002:0x683d:1:4:R575A [AMD Radeon HD7700 Series]

2nd, the log file is always correct. And in your case, the log file should look a little like this... GPU 0 is likely the on motherboard video chip, and there should be 2 more listed!

11:41:18: GPUs: 3
11:41:18: GPU 0: UNSUPPORTED: Rage XL (Intel Corporation)
11:41:18: GPU 1: AMD Radeon HD7700 Series
11:41:18: GPU 2: AMD Radeon HD7700 Series
11:41:18: CUDA: Not detected
11:41:18:Win32 Service: false
11:41:18:***********************************************************************

So third, bollix47 has a good question, which driver version is being used? Because the above log indicates 1 of 2 things...

...forth, either the driver isn't recognized by the FAHClient, so nothing appears in the log for those 2 GPUs, or you are accessing this computer via Remote Desktop, which is known to cause conflicts with GPU drivers.

Must have Cat 12.4 or above, and must NOT use remote desktop. Use VNC instead.

FYI, latest GPUs.txt file is here: https://fah-web.stanford.edu/file-relea ... c/GPUs.txt

Hi 7im
Thank you - I'd edited my post above recognising the GPU file I did have has them in. However there is no onboard graphics on this motherboard at all - not unless it's extremely well hidden(I've been building PC's for about 12 years now and I have not bought one with on-board graphics in that time - always used discrete cards)

I will download the new GPUs txt file and apply it and see where we go from there.

Success! The addition of the 's' in the file name has worked - now showing as follows:
07:16:23:******************************* System ********************************
07:16:23: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 975 @ 3.33GHz
07:16:23: CPU ID: GenuineIntel Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 5
07:16:23: CPUs: 8
07:16:23: Memory: 12.00GiB
07:16:23: Free Memory: 10.42GiB
07:16:23: Threads: WINDOWS_THREADS
07:16:23: On Battery: false
07:16:23: UTC offset: 1
07:16:23: PID: 1632
07:16:23: CWD: C:/Users/Tim/AppData/Roaming/FAHClient
07:16:23: OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
07:16:23: OS Arch: AMD64
07:16:23: GPUs: 3
07:16:23: GPU 0: ATI:4 R575A [AMD Radeon HD7700 Series]
07:16:23: GPU 1: ATI:4 R575A [AMD Radeon HD7700 Series]
07:16:23: GPU 2: UNSUPPORTED: Rage XL (Intel Corporation)
07:16:23: CUDA: Not detected
07:16:23:Win32 Service: false

Thank you very much - now to get those beasties folding away for us!

The client is probably detecting a basic GPU included in the chipset on your board. The board maker can choose whether or not to bring it out to a video connector, but it is latent in many recent chipsets.
