We'll look into this. Hopefully it's an easy fix, but often fixes seem easier than they are in reality.

Why is every fix assumed to be easy? If it was easy, why didn't they just do it the first time?

Time, maybe? I think it's because it seems like the fix or change is trivial, but like he said, it's likely a bit more involved when one gets right down to it.

Thank you for your response! I have a low-power, virtually silent (passively cooled) P-M system ready to fold. It's not the greatest, but given the chance I think it would meet A4-uni deadlines and is the only system I don't mind running 24/7.

Yes of course I'm oversimplifying a bit, as any change in a complex piece of software can have unexpected consequences, but I do believe as bugs go, this is one of the simpler ones to fix. Also, I actually did consider why they didn't do it like that in the first place. There may be a reason it was done differently, and if the fix is anything but simple I don't expect PG to put much effort into providing support for a marginal platform.

I know it has been forever and a day since this happened and people might have moved on to other things (I myself am slowly mining Dogecoins!) but I just tried the v6 client on my Pentium M and was amazed when it downloaded the A4 core and is currently crunching Project 10424 (Run 45098, Clone 0, Gen 9). So I guess this did eventually get fixed, though it took a very long time. Anyone else had a go?

Yes, we recently re-visited this. This was a situation where we thought it was fixed and donors seemed to agree (at least no comments from donors often means that the problem is fixed) but then we looked again recently and saw it was still an issue, so some further changes were made.

Ditto here - After months of not getting any work, I just discovered that my old Pent M laptop was sitting there waiting for completion of a Windows Update reboot. When I restarted it, it picked up Project 10424 (48213, 0, 8), downloaded core A4, and is off and running.

This CPU is a pretty low performer, but I'm glad to see that the project assignments were updated to allow this class of CPU to get some work.
