I have three machines a Folding.
One is an Ubuntu 12.04 machine happily folding on its nVidia GTX 780 GPU.
One is an Ubuntu 12.04 machine unable to get a work unit for its nVidia 8800 GT.
One is a Macintosh unable to get a work unit for its nVidia 8800 GT.
All are getting work units for CPU Folding.

It seems to me the problem is GPU work units for the older nVidia 8800 GT cards are not being handed out by servers that are running. The corresponding log message for these cards is:

Did you read the requirements section of the install guide on the fah web site?

It says no OSX support for GPUs.
It also says Fermi or above in Linux.

If you want to fold with a pre-Fermi GPU in Linux, you will have to use a third party application and use v6.41 (viewtopic.php?f=54&t=23958).

Currently, the implementation of OpenCL in OSX isn't up to the standard required for F@H. Let's hope that Apple sorts out that issue sooner than later.

So.. all 3 of my computers are folding away... But, at folding.extremeoverclocking.com, I have no results for the last three 3 hour periods.

Must be some more server outages, eh?

Oh wait... oops... before I pressed send here, I checked back... and all of a sudden I have 58,000 points just showed up.

I'm good...

;-)

Given that I don't know Kepler from Fermi or Copernicus the GPU requirements were not helpful to me. Given that the FAH client lets you configure a GPU slot anyway, given the 8800 GT is in the GPUs.txt white list, and lacking any log message to the contrary, I had reason to expect the 8800 GT to work in Linux, especially when that same card folded well last year under Win7.

That said, I'll have to upgrade my GPUs to effectively contribute to the FAH project. This is a great forum!

That's why the exact wording in the linux guide is: "4xx series and above (Fermi and Kepler) or newer" so you don't have to know the names, just the model numbers. ;)

Yes, the client supports GPU folding on all platforms. However, those PLATFORMS don't all support GPUs for folding yet. FAH is ready when those platforms do support it.

Is the AS down again? I'm not getting a reject now, just a 'Failed to respond...'.

I'm getting the same message here ... I have notified PG ... it seems there could be a number of server problems today. Even the Server Status page hasn't updated in hours and now the stats updates don't appear to be working either.

Four times in one week you let us down. Wonder what will happen if just one in four stopped. Get it right or that just might happen.

Well, they said they are trying to get another AS online - debugging glitchy computers isn't fun, particularly when they aren't your own and you have to deal with tech/university support.

I know that they are struggling but the lack of information is impressive. The last official blog entry on the matter deals with not the last bug but the the one before that.

Same. Nothing wrong with a pause once in a while to apply updates, vacuum dust etc. New work will come when it comes.

Agreed, communication is lacking but ... when the answer is not known ... that should be said too.
... similar to no communications on core 17.
... are we too busy with other stuff or ???
