I am a returning folder, I folded years ago but I burned out 2 PS3's and the A3 core damaged both of my core2dou iMacs (see signature)

I am using a loaner Alienware windows machine since dec 27th I have been averaging 220k to 250k a day.
yesterday I had to reinstall 3 times. Now when I try to install I get a message "please restart folding @ home before refreshing page"
the only button in the box is a 'refresh page box so I click it and the same message comes up and nothing is running.

how do I fix this?

I went to the windows icon on the lower left found the folding client and uninstalled
then I reinstalled and put in my id and team info and passkey

now it is running as cpu only and very slowly project 9031 2 and a half hours and no GPU folding at all.
13k points a day estimated, its better than nothing

The simplest way to restart FAH is to reboot.

Alienware runs on Windows 10, right? If so, you probably need do download the drivers from the manufacturer of your GPU (NVidia or ATI). The Microsoft drivers do not install OpenCL.

Follow the instructions below to find FAH's log.

OSX runs only on the CPU. FAH does not support GPU folding on OSX (yet???).

thanks

I just found out the GTX 975 overheated and died, the whole computer almost was lost.

I will have to run medium power and only when idle. If I am allowed to run at all.
I was at full power and while i'm working. i hope i still get GPU folding at medium power

Yes windows 10 home, intel i5-6400 @2.70 ghz

Are these laptops or full-size computers? MANY laptops do not have sufficient cooling to run F@H. If you try, run a monitor app such as CPUDI's HWMonitor to ensure you don't overheat the CPU or GPU. HWMon is also valuable for full-size computers, so you can tweak cooling airflow, fan speeds, etc.

The GPU client runs either at full throttle or not at all.

Yes, laptops are notorious for overheating. Often dust accumulates, restricting airflow or the (inexpensive) fan(a) fail.

Overheating isn't common in desktops but it can happen, particularly if a fan fails or if you add a powerful GPU without considering how the extra heat is going to be dissipated. When you buy a preconfigured system, somebody protected their company from excessive warranty claims by taking responsibility for the overall thermal design of the system.
