Thread limit/minimum for large CPU work units?

Post by CaptainHalon »

I have one cpu using 4 threads, and it always gets work units that take just a few hours. Another cpu is using 10 threads, and it gets work units that take 2+ days. Is there a thread cutoff that determines whether the cpu gets larger or smaller work units?

The minimum number of threads is set per project, as far as I know. Projects requiring more cores, typically have more atoms, but it's not a given that they'll necessarily take longer time to compute. The scientists set these limits based on feedback from testing and beta-testing of the project.

There is at least one project around at the moment that has a thread constraint set for greater than 4 cpus/threads so that may be what you are observing.
