FAH V 8.0.1

Post by Akeron »

Hey guys just wondering about this v8 installer in the beta section. I used it and it uninstalled the Old software, installed some new stuff but appears to be a web based client..... doesn't seem to connect though. Anyone else tried it or knows what's up with it?

thanks

What is the link to this beta version download? I don't see anything at - https://foldingathome.org/beta/ - to download.

What I can say is that 8.0.1 was an early test client, it was buggy, and was pulled from internal testing after a short period of testing. It shouldn't be available for download at all. Work is being done on V8, but it is not ready for putting out for beta testing. When it is ready for public beta testing there will be an announcement.

At this point there is just a web interface, no separate control app like FAHControl. The actual client software was installed elsewhere on your system. As for the web interface not connecting, that would be over a local network connection on your system so could be blocked by anti-malware or firewall settings.

I recommend uninstalling this version and reinstalling 7.6.21. You may want to keep the older config.xml files around for copying in the settings info, 7.6.21 may nt be able to read that from the 8.0.1 config.

Definitely No GPU folding on osx at this time.

You should stick with v7.

Your web browser could not connect probably because you were using Safari.

Although the downloads url has beta in it, those are all alpha builds.

I tried Chrome first but same thing. Anyways, like you said... alpha or beta, there's a reason why.

this is why I thought there was GPU support:

Alpha builds, by definition, are full of bugs and experimental features.

I encourage you to at least wait for beta.

That's what I said.... also what I did was download from the "beta" folder a file that was not labeled "alpha" or "a"
