This was driving me mad, mem usage out 32GB was 7GB, after doing this, its down to 4GB memory usage!

Make sure, that the tamper protection is disabled, then run this twice as admin, then restart.

Windows/Microsoft Defender Disable.bat at main . TairikuOokami/Windows . GitHub

https://github.com/TairikuOokami/Window ... isable.bat

I performed the procedures to disable Defender as follows:
1 - I disabled all Defender functions
2 - I disabled Tamper Protection
3 - I ran the command MpCmdRun.exe -resetplatform on:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Platform\XXXX.XXX
https://www.howtogeek.com/717570/how-to ... indows-10/
4 - I ran the reg file with the commands:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows Defender]
"DisableAntiSpyware" = dword: 00000001
"DisableRealtimeMonitoring" = dword: 00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows Defender \ Real-Time Protection]
"DisableBehaviorMonitoring" = dword: 00000001
"DisableOnAccessProtection" = dword: 00000001
"DisableScanOnRealtimeEnable" = dword: 00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ SecurityHealthService]
"Start" = dword: 00000004

I only have about 4GB in use while folding, even with Defender enabled. Maybe I use less memory because I'm a chump? :mrgreen:

There are more than enough sinister redirects, hijack attempts, etc out there to warrant anti virus and spyware protection IMHO. Besides, memory is cheap, and I buy it to use it. You can free up memory by giving up use, but in the long run it's not going to increase folding throughput much if at all in most cases.

I have 16G of memory in my system, and rarely even come close to using it all. To worry about it when there is no system impact is like buying a 400HP vehicle but driving it where you never use more than 200HP.... it just doesn't make much sense to me.

I remember back in the DOS days where using high memory and such was a need for a power user, which I was at the time, so it was worth the trouble of a few configuration lines at startup as well as sometimes changing some dip switches to find settings that would share and work across hardware. But these days it's way easier and cheaper to just spend a few bucks more on memory and be done with it.
