Not sure what this is as it looks like an alias for a server now not a specific server IP like before, or it's totally a different thing

The client has been using names for the Assignment Servers for many years, they need to be resolved by your DNS to IP numbers. Work Servers get connected to by IP numbers instead of names, at least for the v7 client. The v8 Public Beta uses names instead of IP numbers to connect to both AS and WS.

Without your client configuration info, not sure why you are not getting an assignment here. Possibly the server(s) with projects large enough to assign to a 4090 were either down or out of WUs at that time.

OK, never saw the DNS ones fail, it's always been one to a specific server. I hit assign1.foldingathome.org:80 and could resolve it from the browser so not sure if possibly a temporary thing. I did catch the error again just now (about 20min later). My systems are all up and have good access but who knows.

Normally I would complain that I have an idle GPU but it's been so hot where they are at, it's a nice break to take one out of rotation. Still don't understand why ever their is no back fill work for the larger CPU's if it's a problem (had been a few times in the past for me and others). I can only see more an more of the higher end CPU's coming online as time goes on. Hopefully addressed in the next version.

Just verified from linx on that box that I can hit the assign4.foldingathome.org:80 from the machine in question! All good, responded, so likely just no work units.

My client configuration has not changed for a couple of months, nothing new of done to the machine as it normally just hums along.

While typing this I just saw an error for the second 4090 as well. The 3090 just picked up another WU, so they seem to have heat to generate!

I just bounced my server to see if I could restart the connections possibly to a new server that could dispense WU's.

Both of my 4090's were at idle for a while, this seemed to at least cause the check for WU's to go again, both cards are generating heat again!

I'll say this again, my machine should never have to wait for work units or it's a waste of me buying high end hardware. This is something that has come up a few times for me and others, if their are open machines not working on processing it's seems like sorta a waste. I know someone mentioned that their are specific reasons for sending WU's tailored for more capable processors but smaller stuff should run as well if nothing is running.

Lot's of 2 pennies here, but I make a lot of commitment to FAH and hope some of these issues can be fixed.

My internet is good, it's not picking up 4090's and now 3060's for work. Might be something odd going on.

Linux machine is idle on 3090's (the 3090 may have cycled to a different server and picked up something after an error) and 4090's with an odd quick work unit now and again.

Windows machine with RTX4070 Now in the same boat, no work units for the windows machine that houses the 4070 and 3060. Both now sitting idle.

All assignX.foldingathome.org:80 servers are returning a page when tested in the browser.

Something not working somewhere???

Yep, have a second 3080Ti down now. Bed time for me. Hopefully resolved.

My DNS servers are PiHole boxes with Ad Blocking. Also using UniFi Networks UDM SE Pro… 5Gbs down/up symmetrical Fiber and 1.2Gbs/45Mbs Cable asymmetrical as a failover. UDM SE Pro is blocking all Malware and a few countries like China, Iran, and Russia.

Everything else working great.

Now 5 down, a 4070. Just a couple 3090s still folding. One I assume goes down in 9-minutes, the other has an hour.

Interesting every once in a while I see a WU come in looks slow to download but that may be just my imagination, then same thing all over again. Something in the infra is not right, likely something looks OK but really is just not working right.

I would love to see a big picture of all the infrastructure and monitoring if it exists if anyone knows where it might be?

I alerted the researchers. The WU shortage motly hits high end GPUs (nvidia species 9 and 8) as far as I know.
