Can't run FAH after restart

I restarted my computer for a system update. Now when I click on the FAH icon on my desktop, nothing happens. How do i get FAH up and running again? If uninstall and reinstall FAH, will it mess up the folding operation my computer was doing when I restarted?

I'm running FAH on an older HP Desktop running Windows Vista with Service pack 2.

Without additional information, it's difficult to give you an accurate answer. (See instructions linked in my Signature).

FAH may already be running. If so, starting a second copy doesn't do a good job of reporting that information.

The normal installation of FAH's V7 client hides the FAHClient, starting it running in in the background when you reboot. Have you tried starting either the WebControl program or the FAHControl program? Does either of them show an active Work Unit?

It appears you paused the client a few hours before the reboot, and pause normally sticks through a restart. Open up either Web Control or Advanced Control and select Fold/Start Folding to get the slot running again.

Here is what was sitting out lose in the AppData folder under log.txt:

You probably mean it was in the directory C:/Users/Owner/AppData/Roaming/FAHClient, not the AppData folder. Either that or you're not using the shortcut provided by the install.

Using either FAHControl or WebControl to unpause (aka, "Fold") should solve your primary problem. There's no need to pause FAH before rebooting or shutting down.

On a different subject, you may want to adjust the number of CPUs allocated for folding from "-1" or "3" to "4" since your GPU is unsupported as a folding device. (That will increase your throughput and shouldn't cause a noticeable screen lag.)

I pause folding when I am playing Second Life which puts a lot of demands on my computer in combat. Do I need to do that?

Your experience with your hardware is the best answer for that question. CPU folding is executed at the lowest priority level, so pretty much any other task will take precedence. People normally don't see any lag when CPU folding and doing something else that's CPU-intensive, but it's possible. Try it for yourself and see if you notice any performance issues.
